Participants will learn about natural and human sources of background radiation, electromagnetic radiation and its effects on the body, and the biological effects of ionising radiation. The course covers the risks and benefits of dental X-ray examinations compared to natural cancer occurrences and how to minimise risks. Participants will also understand absorbed, equivalent, and effective dose measurements, radiation weighting factors, and diagnostic reference levels in dental radiography. Finally, the course compares the advantages and disadvantages of film and digital detectors in dental radiography. By completing this course, participants will have a thorough understanding of radiation safety and the implications of regulations on dental practices.
